Dec: As It Was in the Days of Noah…

It would have been an impossibility for Noah to build the ark with just himself and his family.  Undoubtedly, he received some assistance from others.  And it was a spectacle that could not be hidden – the “talk of the town” for miles around.  Though a few might have helped, the majority would surround him daily to gawk, point and laugh at his folly.  In the midst of a seemingly stable stable society, any threat of judgment seemed very remote and so people – even his helpers – did not take heed to his warnings.

In Matthew 24, Jesus said, “They knew not” until it was too late.  They saw and heard, but they didn’t perceive and believe.  As a result, they never took heed and were destroyed.  The Lord told us that, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”

The same mindset prevails in our day.  We are so preoccupied, not only with sin, but just plain busyness.  Delay and procrastination are the order of the day when it comes to getting our lives right with God.

By examining the life of Paul, who decidedly forsook the things that were once gain to him, we see the heart of a man who was desirous of not trusting in his own righteousness and external performance, but in his Saviour.  As such, he did not waste away aimlessly, but pursued the course laid out for him until the end.
