April: Weak, Sickly or Spiritually Dead?

Witness the stages of spiritual decline: “For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.” (1 Cor. 11:30).

When Christians veer off the path of holiness prescribed by the Lord, the first stop along the way is spiritual weakness.  Gone are the days of vibrancy and zeal for the Lord.  Sin has found a place and in no long attacked as an unwelcome visitor.  Next stop: sickly.  As we become more and more distanced from the Lord, though still retaining outward religion, sickness sets in and begins to rot us from the inside out.  The end result, sadly, is spiritual death.

You may be happy.  You may continue singing the songs of Zion, wholly unaware that no life is there.  This was the sad state not only of the Pharisees, but also of some of the churches the Lord addressed directly in Revelation 3, specifically Sardis and Laodicea.

All is not lost, as we serve a God who resurrects the dead, both physically and spiritually.  But it requires our recognition and repentance.
